Catsy 69

From all over they would come
Each year to talk
By road and rail and air and
Some would even walk
In the daytime we'd move motions
Then at night we'd drink red wine
Back when I was oh so young in '69

In the city of fat cats
Tunnel sight and sound
Where the blunder and
The bureaucrat abound
Kooris caught up in the lobby
To come and toe the party line
Back when I was oh so young in '69

We'd join hands and sing
How we would overcome
Which was only one of many
Songs we'd sung
Like how the times
They were a'changing
Getting better down the line
Back when I was oh so young in '69

I felt so worldly when
I stood to have my say
But when I looked
My learned friends had turned away
Whispered meetings in the shadows
I think they thought themselves divine
Back when I was oh so young in '69

We stood as one demanding
Our use of our lives
But as we did they started
Reaching for their knives
Never wanting the things
That they prized
I just wanted what was mine
Back when I was oh so young in '69

My hands hung limp as they
Choraled to a different song
I left them there and
Headed back to where I belong
A little older a lot wiser
Thinking thoughts I knew where mine
Back when I was oh so young in '69
